Our Story

Middle School Sweethearts

Jason and Hannah met on January 24th, 2018. Jason was in 7th grade, and Hannah was in 8th. Hannah remembered seeing Jason around before. She knew his name and that he was in the grade below her, but they had never actually talked until that day.

In January, Hannah joined Monroe Central's Junior High History Academic Team for no particular reason. The first time Jason and Hannah met was when the Academic Teams stayed after school to watch the movie for that year, "War Horse". Jason had seen the film before, and Hannah hadn't. She asked him how it ended. He wouldn't tell her. She was annoyed with him but thought he was cute, so she forgave him. Little did Jason know that would be the first of thousands of times that Hannah would ask him to spoil something for her.

After that, they began interacting more and more. One day, Hannah noticed that Jason was reading "The DaVinci Code" by Dan Brown, which she had also recently read. This sparked a conversation between the two and prompted them to start noticing each other more. The two academic team meets that year solidified Hannah's crush on Jason. The kids chatted the entire time throughout the meet. Hannah began to notice everything about him. His hair, his eyes, his laugh - and she was head over heels. The second meet was similar, as the young couple continued to bond over similar interests and ideas.

Jason still makes fun of Hannah to this day for this next part - but it's the only thing Hannah could think of!

On the second to last day of school, Hannah gave Jason a letter confessing her feelings. Actually - Hannah had a friend give Jason a letter confessing her feelings. The next day, Hannah noticed Jason in the lunchroom - and he had a letter in his hand. Was it her letter? Was it a new letter to her? It didn't matter - because before the lunch period was over, Hannah saw Jason throw it away. She thought it was over. When in reality, Jason wasn't interested in responding with a letter. He was going to talk to her in person. So, while Hannah was talking with her friends, Jason approached her. They chatted casually until the bell rang, and it was time to go to their final class period of the school year. Jason asked for Hannah's phone number. Of course, she gave it to him. Then, he walked her to her class - something they would continue to do for the next 4 years of school.

Their first date was to see "Christopher Robin", which is still one of their favorites today. Their first kiss was at Mounds State Park later that year. Their first dance together was Sadie Hawkins, where they went as "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" - accurately describing the mischief they're always getting into together. They went to both proms, graduated high school, and went to college together. They've been on dozens of vacations (as one of their favorite things to do together is travel), and they can't wait for the many more adventures that await them, including their honeymoon in Europe.

The Proposal

Hannah doesn't like surprises, so it wasn't easy for Jason to plan a proposal that she wouldn't see coming! So, he had her completely convinced that he was going to propose at Mounds State Park in Anderson - where they had their first kiss. Therefore, when Jason asked Hannah to go on a bike ride with him, she thought nothing of it.

After work, the couple met up at Mansfield Park and went off on the Cardinal Greenway trail. They had a beautiful bike ride and stopped to picnic along the White River. After a fun picnic, they decided to head back. Hannah noticed that Jason was acting a little strange, but she didn't think much of it. Once they had all their picnic cleaned up, they were getting ready to get back on their bikes when Jason pulled Hannah aside and asked her to wait a moment. Before Hannah could think of anything to say, Jason was down on his knee, and he asked her the question - "Will you marry me?"

Til Death Do They Part

When asked what she loves most about Jason, Hannah says it’s his ability to make her smile, even on her toughest days. She cherishes how his humor and sweet nature can turn an ordinary day into one of her favorites. Hannah knew she wanted to marry Jason when she realized how effortlessly he brings joy to her life every single day.

When asked what he loves most about Hannah, Jason says it's the kindness she extends to all others (animals included). Her drive to teach young students and care for any living thing she comes across reminds him that there is always light to look to in this world.
